Senior Engineering Lead (Developer API Platform) – Up to $200k – Remote (Europe Preferred)

Plexus is partnering with a high-growth identity and security infrastructure company building next-generation human verification technology. Their platform already supports millions of users and is expanding quickly as they onboard global developers and ecosystem partners.

They’re now seeking a Senior Engineering Lead to own and build a brand-new Developer API Platform that will define how external teams integrate identity, authentication and verification capabilities into their applications.

Core Responsibilities

• Build and scale a new Developer API Platform end-to-end

• Design robust authentication and access flows (OAuth-style patterns, token lifecycles, permissioning, rate limits)

• Lead development of identity/credential-based APIs used by external engineering teams

• Own the developer portal, including API key management, sandbox tooling and documentation

• Collaborate with infrastructure engineers on gateways, observability, deployment strategies and security controls

• Mentor 2–3 engineers while remaining hands-on on critical system components

Requirements

• 8+ years backend/platform engineering experience

• Strong authentication/identity background (equivalent to OAuth/OIDC-level systems)

• Experience building APIs used by large external developer bases

• Background developing or maintaining multi-language SDKs

• Strong proficiency in TypeScript/Node.js or similar modern backend stacks

• Understanding of distributed, high-reliability systems (rate limits, failover, observability, degradation patterns)

• Security-driven engineering mindset

• Exposure to crypto/Web3 or advanced identity concepts

• Experience scaling APIs during hyper-growth phases

• Prior work in high-performance or low-latency engineering environments

• Background in early-stage product engineering or greenfield platform builds
