Controller – Fintech / Crypto Infrastructure | New York

Our client is a well-funded fintech startup building the infrastructure to bring institutional finance on-chain. Backed by top-tier crypto-native VCs, they’re assembling a team of Ethereum and traditional finance veterans to rebuild the rails underpinning the global financial system.

They’re hiring their first dedicated Controller to own the entire finance function from the ground up.

The Role This is a full ownership position — not a seat in a larger team. From day one you’ll design and run the systems, controls, and reporting the company scales on.

• Accounting: Own the full cycle — journal entries, reconciliations, monthly/quarterly/year-end close, financial statements, and board reporting
• Controls: Build the internal control environment from scratch — segregation of duties, approval workflows, GAAP compliance, and audit readiness
• Tax, Treasury & Equity: Own the tax and compliance calendar, cash flow forecasting, bank management, 409A processes, and equity issuances
• Strategic Finance: Support leadership on modeling, budgeting, scenario analysis, fundraising, and diligence
• Finance Stack: Configure and own the accounting tech stack, with AI meaningfully integrated across the function

Who They’re Looking For

• 6–10 years of finance and accounting experience; mix of Big 4 / mid-tier public accounting and in-house start-up experience preferred
• CPA strongly preferred
• Has run a finance function largely solo, comfortable being the team, not joining one
• Genuine AI power user: uses AI tools daily across modelling, automation, research, and documentation
• Builder mentality: energised by establishing systems from scratch
• Based in or willing to relocate to New York (hybrid, 3 days in-office; not remote-eligible)
• Interest or experience in crypto/digital assets/Web3 accounting a plus
