How To Get Into Web3

  • Posted: 11.12.25

From DeFi to Stablecoins, the demand for skilled professionals in Web3 has never been higher. But with the space maturing fast and competition growing, how do you get a job in Web3? At Plexus, we work with the top Web3 projects and talent globally, and here’s what we’ve learned about putting yourself in a good position for a job in Web3.

How to become a web3 developer:

To become a Web3 developer, you will be required to have a mix of basic programming skills, blockchain knowledge, and first-hand experience with decentralised tech.

Unlike traditional software development, Web3 development focuses on building decentralised applications (dApps), smart contracts, and blockchain protocols, meaning you’ll need to learn entirely new tools and code patterns.

Start with the fundamentals:

You’ll need solid knowledge of JavaScript, as it’s still widely used in front-end development for dApps (decentralised applications). From there, start to learn Solidity (the main language for writing Ethereum smart contracts) or Rust (used in blockchains like Solana or Polkadot).

Build your own projects:

The best way to learn Web3 development is by doing. Start small by creating a basic NFT minting or a simple token on a testnet. Try exploring frameworks like Hardhat, Foundry, or Truffle for smart contract development, and use libraries like Ethers.js or Web3.js to connect to the blockchain.

What job roles are available in Web3?

Web3 roles can be seen as very developer-heavy, but the Web3 sector has a diverse range of roles, both technical and non-technical.

Technical:

  • Smart contract developer: Write and test smart contracts in Solidity, Vyper, or Rust (depending on the blockchain).
  • Blockchain protocol engineer: Build and maintain the low-level architecture of blockchain networks (e.g. consensus algorithms, cryptographic systems).
  • Frontend/full-stack dApp developer: Build decentralised applications using React, TypeScript, Ethers.js, etc.
  • DevOps /infrastructure engineer: Manage nodes, validators, and deploy scalable blockchain infrastructure.
  • Security auditor:  Review smart contracts for vulnerabilities.
  • Data/analytics engineer: Build dashboards, index on-chain data, or analyse protocol activity.

Non-technical:

  • Product manager: Coordinate development of dApps, wallets, or infrastructure with a user-first, token-aware mindset.
  • Community manager: Grow and engage users on Twitter, Discord, Farcaster, etc. Web3 communities are everything.
  • Marketing and growth lead: Drive user acquisition, partnerships, and token distribution strategies.
  • Legal and compliance: Advise on regulatory issues, token launches, and jurisdictional risk.
  • Content writer: Create educational resources, explainers, and blog content to grow adoption and trust.

Where to find Web3 jobs

The Web3 job market doesn’t follow the same rules as traditional tech hiring. Many of the best opportunities are found through specialist recruiters, contributor programs, and decentralised networks, not just on mainstream job boards.

Work with a Web3 recruiter:

Specialist recruitment like us here at Plexus connects top talent with the world’s leading Web3 companies. We have access to roles from stealth mode startups to major blockchain protocols. Whether you’re looking for technical or non-technical roles, we can help you find your next opportunity.

Is Web3 a good career choice?

Web3 has quickly evolved into a thriving industry with real-world impact, and it’s creating exciting career opportunities across the entire tech sector.

Web3 careers offer competitive salaries, remote working, and the chance to work on cutting-edge tech. Developers with blockchain experience are in especially high demand, but there’s also a strong need for talent in product, marketing, community, legal, and operations.

Many roles also come with token-based compensation, meaning early contributors can benefit from long-term upside.

Web3 isn’t for everyone:

The Web3 sector moves fast.

Regulatory uncertainty, volatility, and project failures are part of Web3 life. Stability can be harder to come by compared to legacy technology. But for people who are adaptable, curious, and forward-thinking, the payoff is not just financial, it’s the chance to work on something transformative and unique.
